Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Kids

Just days after Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively stunned on their first red carpet date in a decade, the Free Guy actor said in an interview that the couple trusted Taylor Swift “implicitly” in revealing the name of their youngest daughter on her song “betty.”

“We thought it was pretty damn amazing. We still do,” he said in a SiriusXM interview, per the Daily Mail. “I still walk down the street and shake my head thinking, ‘I can’t believe that happened.’”

Asked whether he was worried about how Swift might use their kids’ names—their daughters, James, 6, and Inez, 4, are also name-checked as characters in the song—Reynolds said that wasn’t a concern coming from their good friend.

“The names are the names of our kids. We trust [Taylor] implicitly. She’s very sensitive to any of that stuff,” he said. The song—about a teenage love triangle gone awry—clearly “has nothing to do with our kids other than our kids’ names,” Reynolds said, adding their inclusion was still “an honor.”

Before “betty,” which appeared on Swift’s album folklore, was released, Reynolds and Lively had kept the name of their youngest child, who was born in October 2019 and is now coming up on 2 years old, a secret. But, naturally, Taylor’s eagle-eyed fans noticed that as James’ and Inez’s names were used in the lyrics, it didn’t seem too great of a stretch to guess that the singer was revealing the name of the couple’s third child.

Taylor sings on “betty”: “She said ‘James, get in, let’s drive,’” and “You heard the rumors from Inez / You can’t believe a word she says.” Throughout the song, she also repeats the line “Betty, I know where it all went wrong.”

Reynolds went on to say he and Blake “surprised” the kids with the song as a sweet surprise, saying they had “no idea” until they listened for the first time.
